L1s vs Glasgow University Women's Hockey Club Ladies 2

It was a warm day in Glasgow when the beautiful FAL blues (and orange) turned up to play Glasgows All Blacks - including the umpire and keeper…

The blues got off to a positive start with birthday girl Ash winning a penalty flick in the opening minutes. Brave Kirsty stepped up to the plate but was denied by some solid black-smock goalkeeping. The first half finished goalless but was not short of action from both sides.

The second half was a little wilder… Glasgow piled on the pressure upfront with their extra subs but we worked hard to keep the ball out the net. A determined Lucinda worked back brilliantly from midfield but some nifty Glasgow stick skills made our tackles look bad and Lucinda was first to see the green card. Very closely followed by old, lazy Kim for the same offence. Luckily Glasgow were also punished with a card so we weren’t too disadvantaged.

Keeper Jo put in another brilliant shift in goals for the blues making dozens of key saves.

The game got a little fractious with the visitors disagreeing with some interpretations of the rules, and even the umpires debating the merits of an attempted PC award from the opposite half. Captain Gunn was then carded for passing the ball back to the opposition after a foul - honestly Flora you should know better than to be polite!

The entire team worked their butts off to keep the goals out and were rewarded with a 0-0 draw on the final whistle.

A tough game but we kept fighting and deserved the point we brought home. Shout out to Kirsty Taylor in her first match for the 1s who held her own against a strong opposition - well done Kirsty and all the girls 💙
